I know that ref

October 6, 2014 admin

The game wasn’t even close but a father continued to yell instructions at his fifteen-year-old AAU basketball player from the bleachers, much to the chagrin of the other spectators, packed tightly together in a hot gym. “C’mon you can take him!” “That’s YOUR rebound!” he bellowed.

Making it worse, the bleachers reached right up to the edge of the court, with only a few inches between the fans’ knees and the out of bounds line. After a call went against the yelling dad’s team, the referee brought the ball over close to where the dad was sitting. Before the referee resumed play, the dad looked up at him and said, “Hey, man, you gotta give us some calls.” The referee smiled a ‘Yeah, right” smile.

Tapping the dad on the shoulder, a mother sitting close by said, “Why don’t we just let the refs ref?”

“I know that ref,” said the dad.

“And?” said the mother.
