The Latin teacher asked a colleague to cover her class for a day. Upon her return, the substitute teacher asked her, “How do you handle that young man named Bobby? He was a real itch!”
“Well,” said the Latin teacher, with a smile, “I just give him a few minutes of Pennsylvania outdoor life.”
“What do you mean?” she responded, stumped.
“What I mean is I allow him to tell me about his hunting and fishing and then he will learn any Latin presented to him,” she explained. “Meeting a student where he or she is helps bring them to where you want them to be.”
As the years progressed, the Latin teacher happily followed The Itch’s career as he moved from teacher, to principal, to his current position of Superintendent of Schools.
